The polysyllabic hastening of consumer bandwidth will dehumanize tomorrow’s separate but equal society. Peace out.

Daniel replies:

Thanks for letting us know.

I have been looking for the text of a commentary that Daniel did years ago about how dogs always think that every day is the best day ever and how unfailingly optiistic they are. How dogs will always assume that if you are walking towards the door it must mean that we are going for a walk, why else would you be going to the door… Any chance this commentary is available anywhere. I would love to hear it again.

Daniel replies:

Sounds like a good commentary.  I don't think it is by me.  However, thanks for the reminder--I should take my dog for a walk now.

Pink!
Your words were my Catcher in the Rye, my emergency bandage, my key to further inquiry, my never failing foothold. Pink! You are the Rothko that will never be entombed within the cold, dark walls of a city museum. Your words feed untold thousands, engender visions for hungry minions seeking succor underneath a gray cloud. Pink! Your drum is answered by a thirsty throng, which grows strong with every beat¢

Daniel replies:

Webmaster Ed!  There are beatniks posting in here again!  Something went wrong with the software?

Just a little notice: in the ebook version of Fishwhistle, there’s a small typo in the Skivvies make the man story. First sentence, there’s an 1 instead of an I. Just that. 🙂

Daniel replies:

These things happen.  You do not get a refund.

Hello, Mr. Pinkwater. I just wanted to tell you that I’m currently reading your short essay compilation and I’m enjoying every page of it. In fact, when reading “Soul of a dog”, I actually CRIED in the middle of the coffeeshop I was at.

The thing is, I think that story is too amazing not to share. I would like to ask you permission to translate it into Spanish and post it in my personal blog – with all the correct attributions and of course, links to stores where you can buy the full book. Would you be so kind as to grant me permission to do so?

Thank you in advance for the permission, and thank you for sharing so beautiful stories with the world.

Daniel replies:

Thanks for your kind words.  Yes, you may translate it, and post the translation, provided you agree not to sell it for money.  Let us know when it is done, and we will post a link here.

Very nice to see your nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
You are a great man. I thank you.

Daniel replies:

Don't you have to go to Oslo to collect that thing?  I mean, it's not that I have anything against it--my dog is Norwegian, but I hate to travel.  So I hope I don't win.

Why doesn’t the company that makes head and shoulders shampoo make a body wash called knees and toes??
Slam Dunk the Funk,
G-Man

Daniel replies:

Because you would have to shower standing on your head for it to work the same as the other product.  There might be legal complications.

Hi. I have read your books since second grade. Now I am thirteen. Not bored yet. I have some questions for a report on you that I am writing for my English class. 1. What happens to your manuscripts when the editor is done with them? 2. Are you still eating junk food? 3. Your characters are kind of funny and random. Were you an outsider as a kid? 4. Can you still make friends when you write all the time?
That’s it I guess. Hope you can answer some of this.
Thanks.

Daniel replies:

1. I have them fumigated.

2. No.  What's more I really didn't ever very much.  I know I wrote about it.  This is called literary license.
3.  I was, but I was not aware that I was.  I thought _they_ were outsiders.
4. No.  Well maybe via the internet.  In fact, you are my best friend.

Thank you for writing to me.

OMG! I just downloaded Fish Whistle for free on Kindle. So cool of you to do this. Can’t wait to read!I haven’t been this excited about a book since “The Groucho Letters”. Well done, sir!

Daniel replies:

Please go back to amazon and post a review, (unless you decide it's a lousy book). Enjoy!

My wife and I are in a quandary. I noticed she has been filing our children’s copies of your books between the American Girl and the Hopscotch Hill series. I’m thinking your work should be placed next to Robert Lawson’s Ben & Me and Alice in Wonderland. Please Advise.

Daniel replies:

I'm sorry, I do not offer marital advice.  You want to seek a qualified professional.

Thought this story might interest you.

Back in January, Aron spent 28 days alone in the Norwegian Fjells (near my ancestral home).

Crow Boy is awesome. Bushman is your absolute best after that trio,
Lizard Music, Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy from Mars, The Worms of Kukumlima.
Plus eighty others. I see four books being placed in a space capsule. Or in
a cave by the National Archives.

Speaking of precious commodities:
Twinkies can be found in some form in spite of Hostess going pffffft. Short list:
Little Debbies makes a reasonable Twinkie. Vachon Cakes of Canada makes one,
but in limited quantities. Concord Bakeries of Concord Bakeries makes a good
version of the Twinkie. Note: Devotees will discern an obvious difference. The
real reason Hostess went down is because the ingredients were special. You
can’t fake what’s unique. Just like there will never be another Pinkwater.
Lots of silly people, but not astute, renaissance man-meets-1950 DeSoto 4 Door Custom Carry-All as we have here. Do widzenia.

Daniel replies:

When is someone going to open a rehab facility for twinkie addicts?  Little Debbie is the Angel of Death.  Why doesn't anyone get that the whole meaning of Bushman Lives is that the human race should do its best to avoid refined sugar?  Have I failed?  Has my life been without meaning?  Ahhhhhh!

Is Escape to Dwerg Mountain coming out, and if so, when?

Thanks.

Maggie.

Daniel replies:

Nope.  It's not.  Things happen regarding publishing and publishers.  BUT.... Bushman Lives! is out.  It has a dwerg.

Mr. Pinkwater,
I just wanted to let you know, I wrote to you in elementary school 10-12 years ago and you wrote back on a picture. It really had a great impact on me and I thank you for your great stories Borgel and Lizard Music. I haven’t read anything of yours in some time, but due to a post on www.reddit.com about what inspired us to be readers, I realized that you were a big part of my inspiration. Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing and being who you are.

Daniel replies:

You might want to consider that being a writer can be pleasant, but it doesn't begin to make sense if no one reads the stuff.  So it is for me to thank you.  Thank you.
